  1. Make the dough for Apple Walnut and Poppy Seed Cake (Flódni)

    For the poppy seed filling, combine the ground poppy seeds, orange zest, apricot jam, sugar, raisins, and wine in a saucepan, cook over low heat and stir frequently until hot and the sugar dissolves. Let it cool.

  6. Preheat the oven to 175ºC (347°F) and grease a baking pan (30×34 cm) with butter.

  7. Cut the dough into 4 equal parts and roll out into thin rectangles on a floured surface.

  8. Place the first layer of dough in the pan and spread with the walnut filling.

  9. Repeat with the remaining layers and fillings, ending with the last layer of dough.

  10. Brush the top with beaten egg and poke holes in the top with a fork.

  11. Bake for 50-60 minutes and let cool completely before slicing.
